Following Zac MacMath (Everton FC), Zach Pfeffer (1899 Hoffenheim), Amobi Okugo (SC Freiburg), Freddy Adu heads to Spain today to start a two week stint with a former club of Kasey Keller’s – Rayo Vallecano based in the capital of Madrid. Newly promoted to La Liga and sitting near the relegation zone, Rayo has been a long time admirer of Adu so this amounts to something in between a training stint and an audition for Adu.
Greg Seltzer reported it early at NoShortCorners.com and then Ives Galarcep picked it up and made it official near the end of the day yesterday. Freddy leaves today and barring considerable interest, he will be back before preseason starts in January. The most that will come out of this, though some fans have expressed interest in him being sold, is a spot on the manager’s transfer shortlist (like the interest expressed after Okugo’s training stint in Germany).
