Storied French side AS Saint Etienne is working on a deal that would bring U.S. Men’s National Team defender Carlos Bocanegra to the club, according to French media reports.

The move was first mentioned on French TV station Canal Plus last Saturday night, the above story says. It adds that Rennes coach Frederic Antonetti said all players who figured in the team’s recent match with Lens were “un-transferable” but that Bocanegra, who has started at left back since the start of the season, did not play in that game. Therefore it would stand to reason that a loan until season end could be worked out.

Bocanegra has been playing for Ligue Un side Rennes since 2008. He previously spent four years with English Premiership side Fulham. The Upland, Calif., native was drafted by Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire in 2000 and spent four years with the club. He has been capped 74 times and is the current captain of Bob Bradley’s side.
