Becks, Galaxy To Visit Swamp Saturday, July 19

Posted on 07 February 2008 by ASN Staff

The New York Red Bulls announced their schedule along with the rest of Major League Soccer today. Of paramount interest (at least to casual fans or the general public) is of course the July 19 visit of David Beckham and the L.A. Galaxy. That game will once again take place on a mid-summer Saturday night (last year was Aug. 14, if memory serves).

Other home dates of interest: New England visits Saturday, April 19, which is the third weekend of the season. D.C. United comes to town Saturday, Aug. 9, defending champion Houston Dynamo on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24.

Ten of the team’s home games take place on Saturday night, four on Sunday afternoon and the obligatory one on Thursday night, which is exactly the same as last year. But the team’s three home dates in April are one more than last year, which could crimp attendance figures. So could the pair of October home games (last season Red Bull had only one).

The away schedule is somewhat more conducive to road trips (for passionate fans in the area) than last year’s, which featured midweek trips to D.C. and Toronto. In 2008, both D.C. trips are for Saturday night games, though Toronto is once again on Thursday night. The team also makes one trip to New England, Saturday Aug. 2.

The complete Red Bulls schedule is on its MLS team page, where you can also order tickets to the home opener. Not sure when Beckham game tickets go on sale.
