Becks, Donovan shut out in stellar win for RB

The L.A. Galaxy were still celebrating their equalizer when Juan Pablo Angel got behind the Galaxy defense, where he was located by a pinpoint pass into space from Dane Richards. Angel did the rest and the goal held up as the game winner.

The victory was a deserved one for Red Bull, who controlled the tempo and dominated play for periods, especially in the first half. More importantly, New York’s defense shut out L.A.’s dynamic duo of Landon Donovan and David Beckham for the first time this season.

Dave van den Bergh, who has had a large part in New York’s early season successes, started at left back for Juan Carlos Osorio’s side and certainly did his part in shutting down the Galaxy attack. “They had some opportunities from set pieces like they will always get ,” van den Bergh said of the Galaxy’s potent offense. “But other than that, I think we didn’t give up a whole lot.”

“It’s three games in a row we haven’t lost and I think it shows with a different formation we can get results away from home,” said Osorio. “New York was the best team on the night,” added Angel. “We had the better of the opportunities and took advantage of our scoring chances.”
