Media Scouting Report

“He has shown the ability to get around the corner with speed and exceptional dribbling ability. He has the ability to play in the first year” Joe Mauceri, Pro Player Pipeline

“Shea Salinas is a fast wide midfielder. Tremendous confidence to get around the corner. Combines well (at the combine – ha ha ha, sorry). Reminds me of Eric Avila. Salinas was advised not to play at the combine because he supposedly broke a bone in his face, recently. Pretty gutsy” – Joe Mauceri, Pro Player Pipeline

Serious pace and energy on the wing. Up and down all day, goes by defenders almost at will with speed. Not the trickiest dribbler but good enough feet to play in MLS. If you want pace wide this is your guy. – Buzz Carrick, 3rd Degree

 Did  you know?

Sorry girls, Shea was just recently married (January 2010), spending their honeymoon in Saint Lucia.

Originally from Texas, Shea – believe it or not – was also an accomplished runner having run the mile in the mid 4:20s range and the two-mile in 9:50s (that’s sub 5 a mile for two!). Has also run 16:30s for a 5k (5:20/mile).

Furman University also helped to shape the game of the one and only Clint “Deuce” Dempsey. Shea hopes to follow his tracks to international stardom. Salinas also came into the league with current Wizard Jon Leathers.

He played 16 games with the Carolina Dynamo [PDL] scoring 7 goals in the process.

His full name is Robert O’Shea Salinas.

Shea’s younger brother Kobi is a well-regarded diver (CAA Diver of the Year) at UNC-Wilmington, as well as an accomplished singer (though he might not have furthered his musical talents at UNCW). (Damn, they look alike)

Living with his wife, Julie, in Center City (also a Furman alum) right across the street from the Convention Center.
