Did You Know?

  • McInerney was targeted as a top US prospect from an early age, playing for the US U-15 National Team at age 13.  He was also selected to undergo a week of training at the West Ham United Youth Academy in London, England the following year.
  • Playing for the US U-17 Men’s National Team  at the 2009 U-17 World Cup in Nigeria, McInerney scored 2 goals, including the sole goal in a 1-0 win against United Arab Emirates.
  • As a Generation Adidas signee, McInernary does not count against the Union’s salary cap.  Generation Adidas is a program designed to identify and support promising young American players.
  • Jack was originally tagged for the U-17 team by then-coach John Hackworth, who is currently an assistant coach for the Union.
  • McInerney was the youngest player selected in this year’s SuperDraft.

Coach’s Comments

  • Wilmer Cabrera (U-17 Head Coach): “He’s smart and that’s why he finds the goal. He knows what his strengths are, he doesn’t do too much. Jack’s simple and effective, he’s not a showman.” (Soccer America)

Media Scouting

  • Our readers voted McInerney as the most impressive player thus far in our March poll.
  • “Without question, the selection of McInerney — one made possible by a trade with D.C. United — is a surprise as it represents a longer-term project for the Union than the two previous picks. At just 5-8, McInerney is better suited to a second striker role, and he has the ability to take players one-on-one in the attacking half.” (ESPN Soccernet)
