Saint Louis Athletica of Women’s Professional Soccer announced today, April 7, that midfielder Daniela had been placed on the 60-day injured reserve list. The Brazilian international will return to action in June as she continues to recover from knee surgery.

Daniela suffered the injury on May 3 of 2009 in a game against the Washington Freedom. Washington forward Abby Wambach’s foul (the press release calls it a “collision”) on Daniela resulted in a crack to the Brazilian’s tibia and tears to two separate knee ligaments. Daniela was forced to miss the remainder of the 2009 season.

Daniela played in just three matches in 2009. She recorded the first goal in franchise history by slotting home a rebound in that very same May 3 match. Daniela also notched an impressive 30-yard strike for the second goal of the game. She then suffered her injury late in the second half. Daniela was re-signed by Saint Louis Athletica in early March. Daniela joins rookie Kristina Larsen, fractured foot, on injured reserve as the club prepares to start the season.
