Officially, it’s Beem-bo!

The rumors were spot on as Philly.com released early this morning that Bimbo (pronounced Beem-bo, who knew?) Bakeries USA will in fact be the Philadelphia Union’s first jersey sponsor. After a courtship that lasted almost six months, Bimbo – which has its’ headquarters in Horsham, PA is set to make everyone “say Beem-bo”. The deal is a good one – roughly $12 million for four years and on par with many of the other sponsorship deals in Major League Soccer – and the company continues a period of healthy growth as others in their industry weaken.

So now the MLS sponsorship list looks like this:

Chicago: NONE (used to be Best Buy)
Chivas USA: Extra
Columbus: NONE (used to be Glidden)
Colorado: NONE (apparently closing in on one)
FC Dallas: NONE
DC United: Volkswagen (about $3.1-3.7 million/yr)
Houston: Greenstar (5yrs, $12.7million; used to be Amigo Energy)
Kansas City: NONE
Los Angeles: Herbalife (about $4-5 million/yr)
New England: NONE
New York: Red Bull
Philadelphia: Bimbo (4 yrs, $12 million)
Portland: Alaska Airlines
Real Salt Lake: XanGo ($1 million/yr, first jersey sponsor in 2006)
San Jose: Amway ($2-3 million/yr)
Seattle: Xbox 360 ($4 million/yr)
Toronto FC: BMO Financial Group
Vancouver: Bell
