WPS: Sky Blue FC, FC Gold Pride draw on stoppage time strike

In Women’s Professional Soccer, parity is often the name of the game, and things were no different on Wednesday night at Yurcak Field in New Jersey. FC Gold Pride came to the Garden State to take on Sky Blue FC in the final regular season edition of “The Battle of Teams That Choose to Not Identify Geographically”. Gold Pride hadn’t lost a game since June 27th, a 2-0 defeat care of Sky Blue FC. Since then, the Pride have gone on a ten game unbeaten streak and clinched the WPS regular season title in the process. Sky Blue have spent their time since June 27th in a decidedly different way, going 2-6-2 during that span. In that time they’ve also fired a coach, lost two goalkeepers, gained two goalkeepers, ended a 624 minute home run-of-play scoring drought and a four month home winless streak, met President Obama and slipped out of playoff contention. So the first place, 14-3-4 FC Gold Pride – coming off a record-setting 6-1 drubbing of the Atlanta Beat – would have little trouble with the fifth place, 7-10-4 Sky Blue FC, right? Not so fast.
