Holden appears headed for sunny Portugal

Bolton Wanderers new head coach Owen Coyle has turned down the chance to sign U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Stuart Holden after a two-week trial, allowing the 24-year old to sign with Sporting Braga, Mirror Football reported tonight, Jan. 18.

Holden was originally meant to trial with Coyle’s former club Burnley, but went along for the ride when he made the switch after new year’s. Holden reportedly did well at the trial but was ultimately deemed no better than any of Coyle’s current options .

ASN will follow this developing story.

I think that's a poor decision on Coyle's part. Bolton, a team in the relegation fight, should be jumping at opportunities to snatch a player of Holden's quality. Holden not being a big star in the soccer world right now should have been an even bigger incentive to sign him because it wouldn't have hurt the budget as much.
