Official Statement from Shalrie Joseph

Posted on 29 May 2010 by Hank Alexandre

Shalrie Joseph has posted a statement regarding his recent suspension on his official website.

“… I am deeply and truly sorry to everyone that I have let down, especially all the young players for whom I am viewed as a role model. I plan to work tirelessly to regain your respect.

I am grateful for the league’s understanding and support. I am truly sorry that I was not able to be with my team – it was very painful knowing that games were going on, and I could not be there fighting with you.”

As previously reported on this site, Shalrie entered the league Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program on April 24th. It is now being reported that Shalrie tested positive for marijuana, and was notified of those results on April 23rd.  He started serving his mandatory rehab sessions the next day.

The Revolution did not win a single game in his absence and have not won since, despite his returning to the team in time to play Toronto FC last weekend.  However, Shalrie claims that the time away from the team has allowed his body to heal from the injuries that kept him out of the lineup early in the season, and is now fully fit and ready to redeem himself.
