Photo gallery: Carlos Mendes leads ASN on tour of Red Bull Arena

Posted on 13 February 2010 by ASN Staff

ASN spent the afternoon of Feb. 12 at the brand new Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. The purpose of the visit was threefold: 1. To see the arena before it opened, 2. To photograph it for our readers and 3. To do our part in supporting Seth Stammler’s Sporting Chance Foundation charity. (We aren’t the only news organization doing this. Michael Lewis’ Big Apple Soccer has some more creative ways to help out Sporting Chance, whose mission is to better the standard of living in Haiti. Think their services are in demand now?)

Watch this space for a piece on Stammler and his foundation soon. But now, on to what you came for. Stadium porn. Red Bulls defender Carlos Mendes was kind enough to guide the tour. Photo credit to Scott Marsh.

U-18s to face USMNT in Red Bull Arena 'soft opening'

Posted on 26 January 2010 by ASN Staff

Red Bull New York announced today, Jan. 26, that the Red Bulls’ Under-18 Academy squad will face the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team on March 13, a Saturday, at 4:30 PM ET in the “soft opening” of Red Bull Arena.

“Hosting this event gives our fans a first opportunity to visit Red Bull Arena and it’s a great dress rehearsal for our game day staff,” said Red Bull New York Managing Director Erik Stover. “We are excited to host the U.S. U-17s in the build-up to the Grand Opening of our new home.”

Admittance to the soft opening is free, however, all fans must contact the Red Bulls at 1.877.RBSOCCER to acquire tickets beginning on Monday, Feb. 15 at 10:00 AM. Red Bulls Full Season Plan Holders will automatically receive tickets for their same seats prior to the match.

In addition, the club will distribute collection buckets at the match to benefit Red Bulls midfielder Seth Stammler’s nonprofit organization, Sporting Chance Foundation, dedicated to provide relief for the victims affected in the earthquake in Haiti two weeks ago.

Last season, the Red Bulls U-18s were led by forward Giorgi Chirgadze, who became the club’s first homegrown Academy player to join New York’s first team. The U-18s team is a part of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy system. They are one of four squads in the Red Bulls Academy, a cost-free program that aims to develop the best soccer talent in the tri-state area.

The U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team will travel to Red Bull Arena from Bradenton, Fla., where 40 players train daily as part of U.S. Soccer’s full-time Residency Program. The current crop players, including Red Bulls Academy players Russell Canouse, Santiago Castano and Adam Najem, were all born in either 1994 or 1995. The U.S. team, led by head coach Wilmer Cabrera, is in the early stages of preparation for the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship and the subsequent 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

If this year’s FWS is any guide, interest in the event will be large with sellout crowds at all games. But what effect, if any, will it have on raising the profile of the New York Red Bulls to local soccer fans? More importantly, will it help draw people to Red Bulls games? Harrison stadium enters 'next phase'

Posted on 01 April 2008 by ASN Staff

Red Bull New York today announced that the construction of Red Bull Park, built by Makita, in Harrison, N.J., is entering its next phase. After breaking ground in December 2007, over 2,600 of the 3,200 timber piles that support the stadium foundation have been laid.

The construction is now set to enter the next phase: construction of the concrete foundations that will serve as the base of the structure. The forming of the concrete foundations was recently started and the placement of concrete in the foundations is set to begin in the very near future. This construction of the concrete pile caps and grade beams for the foundations will continue through June. After the concrete foundations are completed, the next phase will be the erection of the structural steel frame, which is set to begin this summer.

The stadium was designed by Rossetti Architects of Los Angeles, CA, and New Jersey-based Hunter Roberts Construction Group, LLC, is the project’s construction manager and general contractor.

The stadium’s roof is a curving structure that will extend from its leading edge over the entire seating bowl and then curve down to the concourse. The main concourse will be 26-feet high, eliminating the majority of field-level entryways which will give Red Bull Park’s seating bowl a very compact, close-to-the-action feeling. The field level seats are just 21 feet from the fields touch lines.

Red Bull Park is situated on 22-acre site bounded by 6th Street to the west and Cape May Street to the South and East. The facility is owned by Red Bull Park, Inc., on a site owned by the Town of Harrison.
